Diploma, Orthopaedic Healthcare Industry (Level 4)

Entry Criteria: Certificate in Orthopaedic Implant Science

This unit develops the knowledge and skills relevant to arthroplasty which surgeons and hospital management expect of company personnel entering and supporting company products in orthopedic clinical areas. This qualification establishes the set of professional competencies necessary to support orthopedic consultant surgeons using DePuy products.

This unit enables delegates to implement appropriate sales strategies to support and promote the safe use of company products.

Assessment Criteria

As a professional qualification there are three key elements to be assessed:

  • Technical knowledge – anatomical structures, nomenclature and physics, implant design, biomechanics, material sciences
  • Orthopaedic specialist skills
  • Orthopaedic surgical principles and application

This unit will be assessed through four activities:

  • Verbal technical instruction exercises providing reasoned arguments for decision
  • Candidates will complete a multiple-choice questionnaire covering all aspects of the taught unit
  • Clinical role play
  • Orthopaedic science case study presentations

Delivery

The programme will be delivered through formal presentations, problem-based learning and practical clinical (bio skills) sessions administered and facilitated by clinical educators with the defining experience and qualifications.
