When Healthcare Skills Training International set out to design its NHS bursary programme, the goal was simple. As a group of healthcare professionals we wanted to create high-quality, accredited education and make it more accessible to NHS professionals who are committed to lifelong learning, but often constrained by time, funding and relentless clinical pressure.
We’re delighted to have awarded 100 NHS bursaries in 2025, that original intention feels more important than ever.
Over the past year, we have awarded bursaries to NHS clinicians across the UK, supporting professional development at postgraduate level and enabling healthcare professionals to continue learning without stepping away from patient care. These are not symbolic gestures. They represent a meaningful financial commitment to the NHS workforce.
Since January 2025, we have provided over £120,000 in NHS bursary support, distributed across a range of accredited programmes. Each bursary reflects an individual clinician choosing to invest in their skills, leadership and future contribution to healthcare.
“Our NHS bursary programme exists because we know how difficult it can be for clinicians to prioritise their own development,” says Diane Irvine, CEO of Healthcare Skills Training International.
“Time pressures are intense, funding is limited, and yet the expectation to lead, teach and innovate continues to grow. These bursaries are our way of saying that continued education matters, and that those working within the NHS deserve access to high-quality, accredited learning that genuinely supports their practice.”
At Healthcare Skills Training International, education is not viewed as a one-off achievement, but as an ongoing responsibility. Our programmes are designed to be rigorous, relevant and practical, delivered by experienced clinicians and educators who understand the realities of modern healthcare. The bursary programme sits at the heart of this ethos, reinforcing our belief that learning should be achievable, even in the most demanding environments.
Reaching 100 NHS bursaries awarded in a single year is a moment of pride, but it is not a finish line. We remain committed to supporting NHS professionals through 2026 and beyond, continuing to offer bursary places across our accredited qualifications and investing directly in the people who sustain our healthcare system.
The impact of education is cumulative. It shapes careers, strengthens teams, improves patient outcomes and builds resilience across the sector. Supporting that journey is not an add-on to what we do. It is central to who we are.
