How One Nurse Is Changing Patient Care for Good

A nurse, an inventor, and our Business Development Director, Gillian’s story is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when frontline experience meets innovation.

Her healthcare journey began in hospital wards. Every day, Gillian worked with patients whose mobility challenges made something as basic as being weighed a stressful and undignified process. Having an accurate patient weight is crucial for safe medication, fluid balance, and monitoring health status, but the systems in place for vulnerable patients with mobility challenges weren’t good enough. So Gillian did something about it.

She invented the Patient Transfer Scale—a simple, effective device that allows patients to be weighed during a lateral transfer. It’s simple, straightforward and it changed everything. What started as one nurse’s determination to improve patient dignity is now being used in healthcare settings across the world.

Gillian’s drive doesn’t stop at invention. She is relentless in her belief that high standards in healthcare are non-negotiable—and that to maintain them, we must never stop learning. “Every patient deserves the best care we can offer,” she says. “That means staying sharp, staying curious, and always looking for ways to improve.”

This passion for progress makes Gillian a powerful voice for continuous education.
