NHS and Medical Device Leaders Highlight the Value of Theatre Access Qualifications

The discussion around Theatre Access Qualifications has gained momentum in recent weeks following Healthcare Skills Training International’s article examining the differences between regulated and unregulated provision.

The article explored a significant challenge within the current credentialling landscape: while many courses use the term “Theatre Access Qualification”, the level of assessment, quality assurance and regulatory oversight behind those qualifications can vary considerably.

Among those sharing their views was George Anderson, Head of Contracts Clinical at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

Commenting on the role of theatre access education within his organisation, George said:

His comments highlight the importance that NHS organisations place on ensuring staff working in and around operating theatres understand not only processes and protocols, but also the professional behaviours required within complex clinical environments.

The discussion was echoed by John Docherty, an experienced medical device industry leader with many years of sales management experience.
