It was great to be able to attend the 12th World Congress of Clinical Safety in Paris. CEO, Diane Irvine and faculty members Mark Songhurst and George Anderson flew the flag for Healthcare Skills Training International. Notably, Mark delivered a very well received a keynote presentation on Scan4Safety at the event.
Patient safety is the cornerstone of healthcare, founded in the principle “first, do no harm.” As our ability to achieve complex and successful outcomes grows, so too do the associated costs, expectations, and the potential impact of unintended consequences. While clinical teams prioritise high-level aspects of care delivery, it is often the lower-level tasks—such as the completion and documentation of routine monitoring and care, tracking and tracing medical devices, managing patient flow logistics, and addressing communication issues—that remain as root causes of patient harm.
Inadvertently the team were also caught up in the May day protest march as they tried to navigate access to a local Café. In a festival atmosphere locals and protestors all took part in a good natured multicultural May day celebration in perfect Paris sunshine.
